Why I use Rust-oleum products
When I was starting in refinishing, I really relied on the advice of Melanie at The Painted Bench in Hamilton, ON. She knew (knows!) the ins and outs of furniture refinishing so I trusted her opinion. She carried Krud Kutter and recommended it to me as a product I should use to clean the surface of whatever it was I was going to be painting.
Since then, I have trusted many Rust-oleum products to help with my projects!
Products I use
Krud Kutter
- water-based, biodegradable, and non-toxic formula
- safe for various surfaces and effectively removes food and drink stains, dried latex paint, tape residue, glue, and adhesive
- When I use this:
- depending on the state of the piece, if I can tell that it’s really dirty, I’ll clean the surface before sanding to prevent clogging up the sanding disc
- otherwise, I’ll wait until I’m all done and use Krud Kutter to clean all the non-wood surfaces (including inside and outside of the piece and the drawers & doors)
Krud Kutter Gloss-Off
- this product is a pre-paint cleaner designed to clean and de-gloss surfaces
- helps to increase the adhesion of paint (without the need for scuff sanding)
- removes contaminants like dirt, grease, grime, smoke, mildew, food stains, heel marks, crayon, old wallpaper paste, and wax
- is biodegradable and EPA Safer Choice Certified
BIN Shellac Primer
- effectively seals stubborn stains from water, smoke, fire damage, nicotine, and tannin bleed, preventing them from bleeding through the topcoat
- locks in strong odours from pets, smoke, and musty environments, ensuring they don’t permeate through new paint layers
- dries to the touch in 20 minutes and can be recoated in 45 minutes
Sealcoat (dewaxed shellac)
- a 100% wax-free shellac-based solution
- designed to seal and protect interior wood surfaces, facilitating a smooth finish
- works with all clear wood finishes, including oil-based and water-based polyurethanes, lacquers, and shellacs
- can also serve as a pre-stain conditioner for pine and softwoods, ensuring uniform stain application
- does not darken or yellow over time, preserving the natural appearance of the wood
Spray Paint + Primer (coloured)
- paint and primer in one, designed for a wide range of surfaces and applications
- has an ergonomic trigger that reduces finger fatigue and allows for spraying from any angle, including upside down
- formulated to resist rust, fading, chipping, and dulling- provides a long-lasting protective coating suitable for both indoor and outdoor projects
- formulation includes UV-resistant properties, helping to preserve colour vibrancy and finish integrity when exposed to sunlight
Spray Clear Coat
- designed to give a protective clear finish over various surfaces
- utilizes advanced technology to deliver twice the coverage compared to other general-purpose paints, allowing projects to be completed faster and with fewer coats
- offers excellent resistance to chipping, cracking, and peeling, ensuring long-lasting protection for projects
- formulated to resist fading and preserve clarity when exposed to sunlight, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications
