I put off working on this piece because those doors because, if I’m being honest those handles intimidated me. I also knew that I was going to change up the base and knew that would be more work. It probably sat on my main level for 2 months before I started on it- LOL!

Step by step instructions
- 🍐🔺Scraped handles using Bahco 1” pocket scraper with both the pear shaped and triangle shaped blades
- 🏝️Sanded flat surfaces with my Dewalt random orbit sander using 80 grit, 100 grit and smoothed with 150
- 🏖️ Used my Surfprep 3×4 electric ray sander to remove the finish from those details; first used an interface pad with a 100 grit film and then smoothed with a medium 5mm profoam pad; these foam pads are perfect for the delicate curves
- 📏To build a base to support the new legs I was installing, I first measured the depth of the boards
- 🪵Then I headed to Turkstra Lumber where they helped me find the right wood (poplar!), planed it to the ½” depth, and cut the boards to the size I needed
- 🦍 Placed the boards and secured using The Gorilla Glue Company wood glue and clamps
- 🦵🏻 Installed the new legs (from Amazon) and the support legs using my Dewalt drill
- 📼 Taped off the front details with Elite washi tape (gold)
- 🎨 Painted the inside front area and along the bottom of the sides using Country Chic Paint’s Rocky Mountain- a charcoal gray
- 🪵 To showcase that gorgeous maple, applied Osmo Wood Wax Finish in Walnut; used an Elite 1.5” brush and wiped the excess with a blue shop towel; let dry for 24 hours
- 🪵 Used Osmo Polyx-Oil Clear in satin, I both sealed and protected the wood wax finish; used a round Elite brush to apply thinly and wiped the excess with a blue shop towel
- 🪵🗜️Resecured top shelf using wood glue & clamps
- 👴🏻 Finished drawers with Grandpa Ernie’s method; let me know if you need a further explanation
Once I started on this piece, I loved being able to use so many skills to completely transform this 9 drawer dresser. From building a base, sanding all the details and showcasing the wood, it’s so wonderful when a piece completely comes together!
