When my Auntie and I found this desk on Facebook Marketplace, it needed A LOT of work.

Step by step instructions:

  1. 🧼 Cleaned with Krud Kutter Gloss-Off
  2. 💪🏼 Rebuilt the front corner using a method I learned from @julie_simpleredesign; used Gorilla Glue super glue, paint stir sticks, PC Woody epoxy resin, Dewalt multi-tool; Julie is so wonderful and helped me so much when I was first learning!!
  3. 🏝️ Sanded the top and shaped that corner using my Dewalt random orbit sander- starting with 100 grit
  4. 📏 Scraped the drawers and legs with Bahco 2.5” carbide tipped scraper
  5. 📏 Used my multi-tool to remove the excess and then scraped as much of the original finish with my Bahco 2.5” carbide tipped scraper
  6. 🏖️ Used my Surfprep 3×4 electric ray sander to remove the finish from all the detailed areas- it’s square footprint was perfect for getting all those cornerss
  7. 🏖️ Started with 100 grit film, then progressively used a 5mm foam pad in medium and then fine
  8. 🏝️ Sanded flat surfaces using my Dewalt random orbit sander smoothing with 150
  9. 🤚🏼even did some hand sanding with a thin sanding block to get in those tight spots
  10. 🎨 Painted accents using Fusion Mineral Paint’s Midnight Blue using a Staalmeester pointed sash brush
  11. 🦭 Sealed the paint using Country Chic Paint’s Clear Coat
  12. 🗒️ Drawers lined with paper from Amazon
  13. 🪵 Applied 2 coats of Osmo’s Polyx-Oil Clear in a satin finish for a more durable surface; used an Elite brush
  14. 🪛 Reinstalled the legs
  15. 👴🏻 Finished with Grandpa Ernie’s method; let me know if you need a further explanation 😉

This entire desk (front and back) will now have a permanent spot in my Auntie’s office and knowing that she had the trust in me to refinish it was truly such an honour 🙏🏼
