Why do I love it?

The number one reason I choose Osmo products is because they are environmentally conscious. They use renewable, raw materials that are designed to be non-toxic. These products are free from volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can cause off-gassing – perfect for finishing inside my house. The finished surfaces safe for humans and animals (including kids toys!) When refinishing furniture including surfaces like dining and coffee tables, this is incredibly important.

Osmo products also have 20 minute open time after applied to surface. In my home where I try my best but can never seem to escape dog hair, a longer manipulation time of the product means I can fix it and not wreck the surface. They have wide range of products and the ability to mix for custom finishes.

When the finish dries, it leaves a smooth and buttery soft surface. I use it to seal both wood and Country Chic Paint’s Furniture Paint.

Incredible!

Tools I use when applying

Application tools:

Step by Step application instructions:

FIRST COAT

  1. Choose your product.
  2. Put microfibre roller on the roller frame.
  3. Open can.
  4. Stir to completely incorporate everything that has settled on the bottom.
  5. Pour into tray.
  6. Put the roller into the tray and roll it back and forth until it is completely saturated.
  7. Then, using the ridges on the tray, squeeze out as much as possible – without drying it out. It’s a fine balance!
  8. For the brush, dip into the product and then, using the ridges on the tray or the edge of the can, remove as much product as possible.
  9. I apply the product in sections. I start with using the brush for the edges – making sure I apply I thin coat.
  10. Next, I fill everything in with the roller, ensuring that I am not pushing down on the roller.
  11. I apply in all directions but finish with long even strokes with the grain.
  12. When done applying the first coat, I let dry for the time recommended on the can.
    • Polyx®-Oil: 8-10 hours
    • Polyx®-Oil Tints: 24 hours
  13. While drying, I store the brush and roller in a Ziploc bag and squeeze out as much of the air as I can.
  14. In between each coat, it’s so important to lightly sand the surface to keep it free of dust and in my case, dog hair LOL
  15. I use a 400 grit foam pad and remove the dust with a tack cloth.
    • You’ll know that the finish is ready to be sanded when you see that fine white powder when you sand it.

SECOND COAT

  1. Repeat the steps 3-15 above using Osmo Polyx®-Oil
  2. Let dry for 8-10 hours.

Note: When applying Polyx®-Oil Tints, only 2 coats are recommended.

THIRD COAT

  1. After sanding the second time, the surface is ready for the third (and final!) coat.
  2. For this, you’ll want to first attach your Osmo Superpad to the pad holder. I’m frugal so I cut the pad in half first LOL.
  3. Give the Polyx®-Oil a good stir.
  4. Using the stir stick, drizzle a little bit on the surface and then use that as a dipping pad for the rest of the piece.
  5. Then, use the Superpad and do gentle circles with the oil until it’s all absorbed into the surface.
  6. Finish with long, even strokes with the grain.

I'd love to know what you think!
