Kristin Lia Restoration

This incredible bar cabinet is seriously a unicorn 🦄 piece for me restore. Entrusted to me by a friend, I was honoured to be given this opportunity.

• Dewalt impact driver
• Bahco 1″ pocket scraper with triangle shaped blades
• Dewalt cordless vacuum
• Dewalt 5″ random orbit sander, variable speed
• SurfPrep 3″X4″ electric ray sander

• Scotch Painter’s Tape
• Elite microfibre roller
• Elite round brush
• Osmo pad applicator
• Osmo Superpad
• 400 grit foam sanding pad
• Tack cloth

How I refinished this piece:

1. 🚪 Removed the door
2. 🧼 Cleaned the entire piece with Krud Kutter
3. 🔺 Scraped the edges using Bahco 1” pocket scraper with triangle shaped blade
4. 🏝️ Sanded flat surfaces with my Dewalt random orbit sander using 150 grit
5. 🏖️ Used my Surfprep 3×4 electric ray sander to remove the finish from that beautiful curved door, base and edges; first used an interface pad with a 100 grit film and then smoothed with a medium 5mm profoam pad; these foam pads are perfect for the delicate curves
6. 🕯️ Stained the entire piece using General Finishes Gel Stain in Candlelite
7. 🦭 Sealed the stain with Osmo Polyx-Oil in Satin

• Coat 1️⃣ & 2️⃣: used both an Elite round brush (for the edges) and an Elite roller to apply (to the flat surfaces); completely saturated it and then squeezed out as much as possible on the tray chevrons to apply very thin coats; waited 8-10 hours in between
  🏝️ Sanded with 320 grit and removed dust with a tack cloth
• Coat 3️⃣ & 4️⃣: buffed in two more coats with Osmo’s Superpad attached to the pad applicator

8. 🪵🗜️Resecured top shelf using wood glue & clamps
9. 👴🏻 Finished drawers with Grandpa Ernie’s method; let me know if you need a further explanation

Can you believe that nature created that gorgeous burlwood grain? It was more than an honour to bring this antique piece back to life. How lucky I am!!!
