This Craddock Furniture drop-leaf table came to me from a wonderful woman who I had purchased the matching buffet & hutch from about a year ago. As I started sanding, I knew I wanted to keep this table light. Osmo’s Polyx-Oil Raw is lightly tinted and absolutely was perfect for to keep that light wood light without it looking “wet”.🥰

How I refinished this piece:
🪛 Removed the drop leafs
🧼 Cleaned top with Krud Kutter Gloss-Off
📏 Scraped off as much of the original finish as I could with myBahco 2.5” and 1” with the pear shaped blade carbide tipped scrapers
🏝️ Sanded with my Dewalt random orbit sander using 120 grit and smoothed with 150
🏖️ Used my Surfprep 3×4 electric ray sander to remove the finish from all the detailed areas- started with 100 grit film on an interface pad, then progressively used a 5mm foam pad in medium and then fine; worked this combination of sanders through all the sections of the piece
⚫️ There was an awful spot on the top so used Osmo’s Tannin Spot Remover (see slide for details)
⚪️ Applied Osmo’s Polyx-Oil Raw (it’s lightly tinted with white) as the first coat; applied with an Elite flat brush
🪵 Applied Osmo’s Polyx-Oil Clear in a satin finish for a more durable surface; used an Elite brush
🪛 Reattached the drop leafs
👴🏻 Finished with Grandpa Ernie’s method; let me know if you need a further explanation 😉
🪵 Noticed that the leaves were darker than the top (probably because the top was used more), so decided to do another round of Osmo’s Polyx-Oil Raw on just the top part
🎨 Colour corrected a couple of spots using Coconix Furniture Repair Paint
🪵 Applied Osmo’s Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin to seal the paint
This grain accentuated with Osmo’s tinted hardwax oil really helped blend the vintage with the modern!

I'd love to know what you think!
