This dresser has been done for a long time (hence the flowers in the backyard!) but I never got to stage it before it went to its new home. You might remember that I picked up the long Kroehler dresser and matching nightstands last summer. By some crazy coincidence, I came across the matching tall one!🥰

Tools used:

How I refinished this piece:

DRAWERS:
🪛 Removed hardware
📏 Scraped the original finish from the drawers using my 2.5” Bahco carbide tipped scraper and my 1” pocket scraper with the triangle and pear shaped blades
🏝️ I sanded the entire piece using my Dewalt starting with 100 grit and then smoothing with 150
🏖️ Used my Surfprep 3×4 electric ray sander to remove the finish from all the detailed areas- started with 100 grit film, then progressively used a 5mm foam pad in medium and then fine

FRAME:
🧼 Cleaned with Krud Kutter
📏 Scraped the original finish from the drawers using my 2.5” Bahc0 carbide tipped scraper and my 1” pocket scraper with the triangle and pear shaped blades

📏 Continued scraping the original finish and sanding section by section
🏝️ I sanded the entire piece using my Dewalt starting with 100 grit and then smoothing with 150
🏖️ Used my Surfprep 3×4 electric ray sander to remove the finish from all the detailed areas- started with 100 grit film, then progressively used a 5mm foam pad in medium and then fine

‼️ This does take a large amount of time but it is so worth it when you see that gorgeous grain.

🐎 To fix the wiggly drawers, I installed the side saddles (or drawer guides) that were missing; used both a hammer and nail as well as my Dewalt brad nail gun

🦭 Applied General Finishes High-Performance Topcoat in satin to really bring out that natural wood grain and seal the wood
🧽 Using a combination of an automotive sponge and a mop brush (usually used in watercolour painting), applied 3 coats

This set is now the focal point of the master bedroom and I couldn’t be happier to have been able to give it another life with a new family ☺️
