The second I saw this dresser at Mission Thrift Store Hamilton, I knew it could be amazing – minus those batwing handles LOL!

How I refinished this piece:

🪛 Removed the base

📏 Scraped the drawer fronts with my Bahco 2.5″ scraper; the basis of a incredible end result is making sure that the original finish is completely removed – it takes time but it is SO worth it!

🏝️ Sanded using my Dewalt random orbit sander starting with 100 grit and smoothing with 150
🏖️ Used my Surfprep 3×4 electric ray sander to remove the finish from the detailed areas like the curves on the front edge; I started with 100 film sheet, followed by a medium 5mm profoam pad and then a fine 5mm profoam pad

📼 Taped accent areas with Scotch painters tape
🎨 Painted accents using Country Chic Paint’s Liquorice

🪵 To enhance the grain and provide an extremely durable surface, Osmo’s Polyx-Oil in the satin finish (2 coats), was applied

🪛 Reinstalled the base👴🏻
Finished with Grandpa Ernie’s method; let me know if you need a further explanation 😉
🎨 Colour corrected a couple of spots using Coconix Furniture Repair Paint
🪵 Before installing the adjustable wood pulls, I also applied Osmo’s Polyx-Oil to help match them to the base

To see that grain come out, it made my heart so so happy!! Out with the batwing hardware and in with a new, more modern dresser 🥰

I'd love to know what you think!
