Even with two of the built-in handles missing, I could tell the potential that this small mid century modern dresser I found at Value Village had.🙈

Tools used:

How I refinished this piece:

🪛 Removed the legs and disassembled
📏 Used my Bahco 2.5” carbide tipped scraper to remove the finish on the drawers, handles and part of the top

🏝️ Sanded the drawers with the intact handles, frame and legs with my Dewalt random orbit sander using 100 grit and smoothed with 150 – this was a THICK finish; a future learning would be to use Stripwell’s QCS on the finish first

🪵 Used Elmer’s Walnut wood filler to fill hardware holes on the drawers with the broken handles
🏝️ I let dry overnight and then sanded with my Dewalt random orbit sander using 100 grit and smoothed with 150
📼 Taped off the front accent area using Scotch Painter’s tape
🎨 Painted inside front frame with Country Chic Paint ’s Liquorice (their deepest black) using a CCP artist brush

🪵 To help camouflage the hardware holes that I filled with the walnut wood filler, I used Osmo’s Wood Wax Finish in Walnut to the entire piece (except the painted area)

🪵 After letting dry for 24 hours, I applied Osmo’s Polyx-Oil in Clear for extra durability and a sheen

👴🏻 Finished drawers with Grandpa Ernie’s method; let me know if you need a further explanation 😉

🪛 Reassembled the base and reinstalled it and the legs

🖌️ The piece just didn’t look right so I ended up adding a paint accent across the top of the drawers with the new over the edge hardware to help tie everything together

I am so happy that I was able to save this piece and make the drawers with the broken handles blend more seamlessly!

I'd love to know what you think!
