In a little bit of a departure from my norm, I just couldn’t pass up this set of nightstands when I saw them Mission Thrift Store!
From there, I had another refinisher reach out and send me pictures of the exact same set she refinished – and how it was originally a vanity. I love seeing how others choose to redo the same pieces. We’re all so creative and interpret it in different ways.

How I refinished this piece:
🪛 Removed the hardware and tried to remove bottom frame (it didn’t come off LOL)
🏝️ Sanded drawers, frame and legs with my Dewalt random orbit sander using 100 grit and smoothed with 150
🏖️ Used my Surfprep 3×4 electric ray sander to remove the finish from the feet; first used an interface pad with a 100 grit film and then smoothed with a medium 5mm profoam pad
🔺Used my Bahco 1” pocket scraper with triangle shaped blade to remove finish from the top edge
🕳️ Used Elmer’s wood filler tinted in walnut to fill little holes; sanded when dry
📼 Taped off edges with Elite washi tape
🎨 Country Chic Paint’s Hurricane was the perfect choice for the front edges; applied 2 coats
🪵 Taped off the top edge and applied Osmo’s new Polyx-Oil Tints in Terra (for a more cohesive look); also applied to bun feet; let dry for 24 hours
🪵 For the drawers and body and to seal the paint, I applied Osmo’s Polyx-Oil Clear in matte with a roller
🏝️ Sanded with a 400 grit foam pad between coats; removed dust with a tack cloth
- For coat 2️⃣, I again applied with a roller.
- For coat 3️⃣, buffed in the Polyx-Oil using an Osmo Superpad
🧼 Cleaned & reinstalled the hardware
👴🏻 Finished drawers with Grandpa Ernie’s sanding method; let me know if you need a further explanation 😏
I am so happy that I went out of my comfort zone to attempt this piece. This walnut grain makes it ALL worth it!!
