Definition: acidic chemicals held in solution within the liquid sap; are water soluble, so moisture or water permeating through the timber will bring them to the surface causing stains
While there are several ways to remove tannins, my go to is to use Osmo’s Tannin Spot Remover. It’s easy and safe to use inside my house.

How I’ve used Osmo’s Tannin Spot Remover
This table had an awful black mark on it when I first got it. While I wasn’t able to remove completely, using the Tannin Spot Remover really helped to minimize the area! Below is the video of how I removed it. I would change a couple of things if I did it again:
- ensure that the area stays moist
- keep a better eye on it as it’s working
Using this product (as opposed to oxalic acid) allowed me to use it inside and safely. I highly, highly recommend!
