This tall dresser I found on Facebook Marketplace as part of a set. See here for the step by step refinishing of the matching wide dresser. I loved the transformation of this one!

Materials:
- Annie Sloan chalk paint (Athenian Black)
- Annie Sloan clear wax
- Fusion Mineral Paint’s hemp oil
How I refinished this piece:
I started by removing the pieces from around the legs. They were only screwed on which made them so easy to remove. Using my Dewalt orbital sander, I sanded the legs, drawer fronts and drawer handles to bare wood.
That wood is just incredible! Truly I had no idea what was underneath when I started sanding. I did try sanding a small patch on the top to see if the wood was on top as well but it wasn’t.
After finishing the drawers and legs, I started on the frame. I painted three coats of Annie Sloan’s Athenian Black. I sealed with clear wax which only enhanced the richness of the black.
There was this very interesting metal piece that connected each side of the handle. Click here on one of the ways I clean vintage metal.
I found this really cool maker’s mark on the bottom of the drawers and still can’t figure out who the manufacturer is! If you have any leads, I’d love to know.
To finish the drawers, I applied hemp oil using a foam brush. The hemp oil both enhances the grain of the wood while simultaneously protecting it. I’m loving the colour combination of the black and natural wood!
